Nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants took to the streets of Hawera today striking for better pay and work conditions.
The Taranaki District Health Board have released a notice asking people to save emergency departments for emergencies only during the duration of the strike.

Approximately 40 staff from Hawera Hospital started at the town square and made their way to Hunter Street this morning holding their signs and chanting their demands for a safer workplace.
