Black power not involved in street brawl or shooting in New Plymouth

Police have told Stuff reporter Leighton Keith that the brawl involving Mongrel mob members was not against their longtime rivals, the Black Power in New Plymouth over the weekend.

Apparently 20 or so mongrel mob members were in New Plymouth for a birthday, and while here caused trouble in the CBD and around the city.

A bystanders video showed groups of people throwing punches and people being stomped on and kicked while a crowd of people stood on the road watching. Calls of sieg heil and dog barks could be heard.

Stuff have reported that the members of the visiting gang were involved in a couple of altercations with Black Power on Sunday before leaving but there was no physical violence.

Detective Sergeant Gerard Bouterey said Black Power remained the dominant gang in Taranaki and police were not expecting a turf war between the groups. – Stuff
