Hundreds show up for Comic Book day in Hawera

Hawera streets were packed with kids and adults today for the 2019 Comic Book Day held by the Hawera Library Plus.

Hundreds of comic books, free coffee cards, art lessons and face painting were amongst the freebies that locals were gifted.

The creator of the Moa Comic Series James Davidson held a workshop and Q&A, talking about the stuggles he faced when trying to have his work published.

Prize giving was then held in the Hawera town square following the library extravaganza where pools were awarded for best dressed individuals, families, adults and children.

Artists who submitted their work were also on the list of winners.

South Taranaki Mayor Ross Dunlop dressed for the occasion, masking his Batman costume and cape. He said the event turned out to be great and it was good to see all those that participated.

Self confessed star wars nerd and owner of Caffeinate cafe Hawera, Campbell Mason said on his Facebook page

“Don’t let the dark side take over grab your coffee and get a force empowering cupcake and remain with the Jedi, young Padawan! May the 4th be with you! “

The small business owner had a huge part to play in the days events, giving away free hot drinks and had activities at his High Street premises.
