Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to batter Mt Taranaki and the north of the region overnight and into Tuesday.
MetService has issued a heavy rain warning for Mt Taranaki and a watch for the north of the region.
Between 100 and 140 millimetres of rain is expected on the mountain between 6pm Monday and 6pm Tuesday.
Peak intensities on the mountain could reach 15 to 25mm an hour and thunderstorms are possible, MetService said.
MetService said periods of heavy northerly rain and thunderstorms were also possible for the north of the region on Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon.
The rain should clear by Wednesday and Thursday but morning rain is expected again on Friday, before a beautiful sunny day on Saturday and cloud on Sunday, MetService’s seven-day forecast predicts.
