Panic purchasing leaves local supermarket shelves empty

Supermarkets are under pressure in South Taranaki and are asking customers to refrain from panic purchasing, and to shop as they normally would, however a Facebook post by Pak N Save Hawera doesn’t give locals the reassurance they’re looking for.

The post reads that temporary limits on a number of items within their store is in place while some products are unavailable.

Images immerging online show that the hype is real with Countdown Hawera’s shelves either near empty or completely bare.

Further north, Pak n Save in New Plymouth has had to hire more staff to keep up with the influx of customers.

There are currently 20 confirmed cases of covid-19 in New Zealand, with none being in the Taranaki region.
